Malaysia travel guide
Cities, highlands, rainforest and islands — with a route that leaves room to enjoy them.
Start with the route, then choose your island
Plan a journey through Peninsular Malaysia with a manageable mix of city streets, highland or rainforest time and a beach finish. These guides cover eight destinations. Sabah and Sarawak are separate future additions, not extra stops quietly squeezed into a two-week peninsula itinerary.
Begin with your travel month, international flights and available nights. Choose either a west-coast or an east-coast island plan, then check the complete transport between bases.

Two weeks: a focused first trip
13 nights · Kuala Lumpur, Cameron Highlands, Penang and Langkawi. Four bases and a clear west-coast finish.
Three weeks: heritage, forest & island
20 nights · Add Melaka and Taman Negara, with a slower route and room to enjoy the journey.
Three weeks with children
20 nights · Fewer changes, longer stays, room-layout checks and a buffer before the flight home.
Choose the right beach finish
Langkawi and the Perhentians have different access and seasonal considerations. Swapping islands requires reworking transfers too.
Choose a base that suits the day
A city hotel beside a useful station, a highland stay that needs a driver and a resort reached by boat create different journeys. Compare the actual neighbourhood, room layout and access before the view photograph.
