Where to stay in Vietnam

Choose the right base first, then the room: a practical accommodation guide from Hanoi to the southern islands.

Start with the day you want to have

The best hotel for a particular trip is often the one that removes an awkward daily journey. Decide whether you want to walk out for dinner, stay close to a trail, spend afternoons at a lodge or use a beach resort as the holiday itself. Then compare properties inside that type of base.

This is a curated planning shortlist, not a ranking based on personal stays. The destination guides explain the choices in more detail. Rates, availability and room policies depend on dates and occupancy; a “family room” label does not guarantee the right arrangement for your family.

Four contrasting stays to compare

A stay to consider

Topas Ecolodge

Best for: A mountain stay with time at the lodge

Location: Outside Sapa town

Main advantage: The countryside is part of the stay rather than a separate daily excursion.

Trade-off: Arrange transfers and check terrain; it is not a walk-out town hotel.

A stay to consider

Silverland Yen Hotel

Best for: Central Ho Chi Minh City outings

Location: Thu Khoa Huan Street near Ben Thanh

Main advantage: A practical central address for returning between short visits.

Trade-off: Compare the room outlook and noise; central does not mean quiet.

A stay to consider

More destination-specific choices

For northern and central stays, read Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Pu Luong, Phong Nha, Hue and Hoi An. Each guide pairs a researched suggestion with a reason to choose it and a limitation.

For other bases, use Ha Giang, Cat Ba, Da Lat and Da Nang. The delta guide compares two different stay types, while Ho Chi Minh City gives two city options.

Ask these questions before paying

  • What exact beds and rooms are confirmed for every adult and child? Enter children’s real ages and request connecting rooms explicitly if needed.
  • Is breakfast included for everyone, and what is the total after taxes, service charges and extra beds?
  • Where can a vehicle stop? Are there stairs, steep paths or an inaccessible final approach?
  • What is included in the airport, station or boat transfer? A hotel listing alone does not book it.
  • What is the cancellation deadline in local time, and what happens if transport is disrupted?

Compare the total stay cost

Include meals, transport and the activities that make sense from the base. A cheaper room can be poor value if it creates expensive transfers twice a day. A higher-priced lodge can still be the wrong choice if you intend to spend every waking hour elsewhere.

Use the budget guide for a transparent cost structure. The hotel buttons above are CJ affiliate links: we may earn a commission without extra cost to you. That commercial relationship is separate from the suitability judgement. Booking a room does not mean an excursion, transfer or special request is confirmed.
