Read the current regional advice

Use current government travel advice and its regional map before booking. Conditions on one island do not establish conditions across Indonesia. The Dutch government advice covers natural hazards, transport, local laws and assistance. Check the actual route and planned activity rather than relying on a single country-wide description, and check your insurance against those arrangements.

Volcanoes and mountain outings

Access can change with volcanic activity, weather and park decisions. Use MAGMA for official volcanic information and follow local closures and exclusion zones. Our Bromo route does not include a Semeru climb; our Ijen guide does not promise a crater descent or blue-fire visit. Senaru village and waterfall time is separate from a Rinjani summit expedition. Do not cross a barrier because another visitor does.

Sea conditions and exposed beaches

Use a named boat provider and ask about lifejackets and cancellation procedures. Keep a mainland buffer before an important flight. Nusa Penida’s cliff viewpoints and steep beach descents are not casual walks, and a photogenic beach is not automatically suitable for swimming. Ask locally about the specific water conditions and choose a different activity when the arrangement does not suit the group.

Get individual health advice

Arrange a travel-health consultation for the places and people on your trip, particularly for children, pregnancy, medical conditions or remote travel. Discuss medicines, mosquito-borne illness and vaccination questions with a qualified clinician. Check cover for the actual activities and assistance or evacuation, then save the insurer’s emergency contact offline. General website advice cannot replace an individual assessment.

Have a practical assistance plan

Save accommodation and transport contacts and know how help is reached from a remote village or small island. Ask the property about the nearest appropriate care and what weather disruption means for access. Use reputable transport and keep valuables secure in busy areas. In an urgent situation, contact local emergency services and the insurer’s assistance team; use the current government page for verified consular and emergency details.

Frequently asked questions

Does a volcano tour booking guarantee access?

No. Official closures and current conditions override an itinerary.

Is every Penida beach suitable for swimming?

No. Check the specific beach and conditions, and do not treat a viewpoint photograph as a swimming recommendation.

Can this page tell me which vaccinations I need?

That requires individual advice from a qualified travel-health professional.
