Start with a route your children can enjoy

Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, Kampot and one island provide different experiences without requiring every region. Keep arrival day gentle and give a major outing its own day. Two nights usually leave one full day, not two. A longer stay at one base can be more useful than another hotel move, particularly when the transfer involves a ferry, waiting and a final walk with luggage.

Angkor in shorter chapters

Choose a limited temple selection, with a guide if the explanation will help the children engage. Sunrise is a choice, not a requirement. Bring water and build a shaded meal and hotel break into the day. Check current ticket and upper-area age rules through Angkor Enterprise; a rewarding visit should not depend on every child being allowed to climb the same staircase.

A considered Phnom Penh visit

The palace area, museum and a short riverfront outing can make a coherent cultural day. Tuol Sleng and Choeung Ek contain distressing material and are not automatic family activities. Read what the visit involves before deciding. Keep any difficult historical visit separate from a busy sightseeing day, and allow each adult to make an informed choice about what the children see.

Choose the room for the whole party

Confirm every child’s age, the maximum occupancy, named beds, bathrooms and breakfast rather than asking only whether a hotel is family-friendly. Plantation publishes family room categories; Pavilion states a minimum staying-guest age of 16 and is not a young-family alternative. For a larger family, compare adjoining or connecting room arrangements directly with the property; do not assume a search result guarantees them.

Water, wildlife and the last travel day

Ask about the actual lifejackets, supervision and swimming ability needed for a boat or snorkelling outing. For elephants, compare observation policies and walking demands rather than choosing on a sanctuary label. Keep an alternative if conditions do not suit. Finish an island stay with a mainland night before an important flight so that a delayed crossing does not decide the end of the holiday.

A two-week family route

Use the dedicated route for a night-by-night plan with four main destinations and a final mainland buffer.

Frequently asked questions

Can we follow the two-week family route with five children?

Use it as a pacing framework, then price the actual rooms and vehicle capacity. A large family needs specific bed, luggage and transfer arrangements.

Should we include both Koh Rong and Koh Rong Sanloem?

For a short family trip, one well-chosen bay is usually simpler. Add the other only with enough nights and a confirmed connection.

Do all featured hotels accept young children?

No. Age restrictions and room capacity are stated where relevant; verify the named property and room before booking.

Must every day have an organised activity?

No. A pool afternoon, short local walk or familiar meal can make the next major outing more enjoyable.
